The Integenerational Graduation Catalogue

As part of Design Academy Eindhoven’s 75th anniversary exhibition in Milan (Intergenerational Graduation Show, June 2022), an installation was developed to display the Academy’s graduation catalogues from 1966 to 2021. The goal was to create an accessible, physical representation of over five decades of graduation history.

The project began with the digitization of all available catalogues, followed by the construction of a searchable database indexing nearly 4000 graduates by name and year. This enabled a dual alphabetical and chronological ordering of the data, creating a structured view of the Academy’s output across time.

Graduates' projects were extracted from the catalogues and reprinted at 1:1 scale on A3 sheets, which were then physically displayed on a custom-built structure. The modular display formed a visual and spatial "meta-catalogue," allowing visitors to explore the legacy of the Academy through a tactile and comprehensive format. Printed indexes placed in front of each section guided navigation and allowed for targeted consultation.

The installation acted as both an archival tool and a form of spatial storytelling, revealing the volume, continuity, and evolution of student work over 55 years. By making the archive legible and materially present, the piece emphasized the Academy’s collective memory and ongoing cultural contribution.
